Dreaming of Fall

Sep 9, 2011

Since the recent tropical storm provided us with much need rain, we have had a pleasant surprise in South Louisiana.  Cooler Temperatures!!!!!  Days in the 80’s and nights that have gotten down into the 50’s have given us respite from the savage heat of the summer.  Everyone keeps reminding themselves to enjoy it fast because it won’t last long.  We typically do not experience fall temperatures until late October and November and often have temperatures in the 80’s at Thanksgiving.  We have lots of wonderful things in South Louisiana; however, beautiful fall scenery is typically not one of them.  So a road trip is in order to enjoy the beautiful scenery that fall can bring.

France in autumn

When we think of Paris, we typically think of Paris in the Spring.  However, David Downie shares many reasons to love Paris in the autumn that can be seen here.  Okay we are convinced!

The cooler weather has made us want to take a road trip but for now this will have to do.  We have much needed gardening that has been  waiting on cooler temperatures to do. A garden September “to do” list can be found here to provide guidance on what has to be done.  Hoping to get outdoors and enjoy this beautiful weather.

What’s on tap for your weekend?  Do you have beautiful fall scenery in your area?  What are your favorite things about autumn?

Making today great!

Angela

  1. These photos are making me long for Autumn all the more. Lovely Paris in Autumn. I do have to say that some of my favorite things about Autumn is the red leaves of the foothills surrounding the valley where I live here in Northern California. It is so beautiful in this valley. I am not far from the Napa wine country which is breathtaking beauty on just about every road you could drive down. My favorite pumpkin farm is in Petaluma. Sloughhouse near El Dorado Hills, Ca is another Fall destination where fresh produce is sold along with pumpkin farms and Christmas tree farms. We always make our way to Apple Hill in the Sierra Nevada foothills for fresh baked apple donuts, pies, jams, fresh apple juice, and crates of every kind of apple you can think of. The scent of pine air heavenly.

  2. Fall is my favorite season….there is something so sweetly nostalgic about it….I can just hear the Cider House Rules soundtrack in the background….Sigh. Lovely pictures! I am now officially in the mood.

  3. Um ….Kerrie, I think we must have crossed paths at some point….you are in my stomping grounds! :)

  8. “April in Paris” is always heralded, but I think your pictures may change that to “Autumn in Paris”. L’autumn est si beau en Paris! J’adore the picture of the bust in autumn leaves! Thank you so much for setting the autumnal mood! The cooler weather has been si bien accueillis. Have a happy almost fall weekend! Bon soir!

That alley of trees is magnificent. Your photos made me miss autumn in NY, but only for a minute. I have always found it a sad time of year. Everything is dying and winter is inevitable. So I live in Florida. But there is no denying the changing colors of the trees are magnificent.
    Best…Victoria

  10. Cool nights and mid-70 days are on the way. Fall is definitely my favorite time of year and Paris in the Fall is glorious (but take an umbrella). Thank you for the wonderful photos. Mary

  11. Fall is where it pays off to live in the north. Ohio’s trees are every bit as beautiful as you can imagine. Even driving onto the freeway can be drop dead gorgeous with color.

I know- the snow. But, honestly, except for a few days of snowstorms, it is actually quite refreshing. If you are ever up here- I’d love to show you around!

  12. fall is my favorite season.
these pictures only wet my apatite for more.

we NEVER get foliage here .
i have to get up to maine to see my mom and the leaves.

  13. Such beautiful, inspiring images. My favorite Fall activity is very simple: holding out for a crisp, bright day I enjoy going for a walk with my family to enjoy the vibrant colors. This year I hope to get a lot of beautiful pictures of the Munich Fall leaves at some of the palaces and other breathtaking spots!

Your post is absolutely wondrous!!! I have longed to live in a climate where fall rewards you with such sights. Here in Calif. our fall family fix is driving one hour to the foothill area of Oak Glen to pick apples, make cider and collect acorns from the stunning California oaks. We too are setting our shop for the autumn season. We make sure to provide the fall splendor that mother nature cannot give us here in urban Orange County. Merci beaucoup ~jen

  22. Beautiful images and I’m so happy you two have been able to get outside and enjoy some gardening. We unfortunately received another full week of rain and high winds that only made another mess around here so we’ve been cleaning up once again. After receiving over 11” of rain we’ll be happy with some sunshine and warmth! I hope you both are enjoying your weather!

  23. I’m with all the others Fall is my favorite time of the year…that is until Spring gets here. I just love the change of seasons. This is an absolutely beautiful post. Have a great week. Mona

  27. This is my favorite time of year! We do have some gorgeous places to look at the leaves in the Seattle area, but not until late October/November. Of course, I’d love to go to Paris in the Fall! I have only been in the summer, so something for me to think about for my next trip!

  28. YAY FALL! I am so excited…and I get like this every year. Fall is almost like my Spring. I start cleaning and nesting a bit more in preparation for the time spent indoors.
